# Emery explains why midfielder was allowed to leave Arsenal

Unai Emery has explained the decision that saw Jack Wilshere complete a free transfer to West Ham.

Speaking to reporters, as cited on [TalkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/399403/arsenal-news-new-manager-unai-emery-says-letting-jack-wilshere-leave-was-tactical-decision/), Emery explained that he could not guarantee Wilshere a place in his new-look Arsenal side.

> It was a tactical, technical decision. The conversation with Wilshere was a very good conversation. I explained to him my opinion and how I will want to create the team and I couldn’t say for sure to him he’s going to play in the XI.

> Also he explained to me the decision is not easy for him but he wanted to choose the best option for him. Every time it was with respect.

Emery has already confirmed that he would like to make Aaron Ramsey a key figure in his squad going forward.

The player was out of contract at the Emirates this summer and it was unclear for some time whether or not he would agree to a new deal.

After weeks of speculation, it was confirmed that the player would be leaving the club.

Reports linked Wilshere with a move to Turkey but in the end, he joined his boyhood club, West Ham, to work with former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini.
