# World Cup star refuses to do Arsenal medical in Russia

Despite Lucas Torreira looking set to join Arsenal, he has reportedly turned down the chance to complete a medical in Russia.

The player’s father Ricardo Torreira told [Fox Sports Argentina](https://www.foxsports.com.ar/videos/1270351939732-ricardo-torreira-es-casi-un-hecho-que-lucas-juegue-en-el-arsenal-de-inglaterra) that nothing will happen until after the World Cup.

> It is as good as a fact that Lucas will join Arsenal. There are many clubs who contacted us but we have given our word to Arsenal and are very satisfied with what they offered.

> The deal is virtually done and only the arrival of Lucas is remaining. Arsenal offered to do the medical examinations in Russia but we decided against it because we felt it’s inconvenient, it is not the right time.

Arsenal are expected to complete a deal to sign the player from Sampdoria and wanted to speed up the process by carrying out a medical in Russia, something that is very common during international tournaments.

However, Torreira wants to remain focused on Uruguay’s progression in the tournament before thinking about his next move.

Uruguay are in action this afternoon against France for a place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Torreira is expected to undergo a medical in London when his participation in the World Cup is over.
