Medical imminent as international midfielder closes in on Arsenal move

Lucas Torreira is expected to have an Arsenal medical imminently as he closes in on a move to the Emirates.

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has tweeted to confirm that the deal is close, with Sokratis’ arrival set to follow.

Dortmund have delayed the confirmation of the defender’s move, despite a deal being agreed for some time.

Torreira has been heavily linked with a move to England and reports coming out of Italy have suggested that a deal is all but done.

It is believed that Uruguay’s progress in the World Cup has delayed any official announcement, despite one football agent already confirming the move.

The midfielder has been quizzed about his future whilst away in Russia with the Uruguay squad. He talked up a move to the Emirates but reiterated that his focus will remain on the World Cup.

New Arsenal boss Unai Emery has identified the midfielder to play alongside Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka, forming a key element of their squad going forward.
