Southampton want to sign Arsenal star
Southampton have joined the race to sign Jack Wilshere on a free transfer, according to Darren Lewis of The Mirror.
Wilshere is set to become a free agent as he’s unsure about signing a new contract at Arsenal as Unai Emery has apparently informed him that he will only be a squad player rather than a first team regular if he stays at the Emirates.
Numerous other clubs, such as AC Milan, Sampdoria, West Brom and Wolves, are interested in signing the England international on a free transfer, and Mark Hughes has now shown an interest in taking him to St Mary’s too.
Wilshere wants to be playing regular first-team football and is keeping his options open, so Southampton will be hopeful of being able to convince him to move to the South Coast.
After finishing 17th last season, Saints will want to improve their squad to ensure that another relegation battle isn’t on the cards and signing a quality player like Wilshere would go some way to achieving their aim.
