Arsenal reportedly sent scouts to watch Caglar Soyuncu in action for Turkey on Monday night as they defeated Iran 2-1 in a friendly.
According to claims from Football London, representatives from the Gunners were deployed to keep a close eye on Soyuncu, with the club keen to recruit him this summer.
Soyuncu enjoyed an exceptional season with Freiburg and has cemented his place in the Turkish national team. He played the entirety of the match as Turkey came away with a narrow 2-1 win against their Iranian counterparts.
The 22-year-old defender has admitted that he is aware of Arsenal’s interest in signing him this summer but is unlikely to negotiate a move away from Freiburg until he returns from Turkey’s training camp, roughly a week into June.
Arsenal are intent on bolstering their defensive ranks this summer and are closing in on the signing of Borussia Dortmund star Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
The Gunners will not be able to recruit Soyuncu cheaply this summer, with Freiburg reportedly valuing him at £35m. However, this does not appear to have deterred Arsenal, with extensive scouting still seemingly ongoing.
