Arsenal’s interest in Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu has been confirmed by the player himself.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for the promising defender, who is understood to be valued at a price tag worth £35 million by Bundesliga side Freiburg.
Arsenal want to bolster their defensive ranks ahead of next season and Soyuncu has been touted as an option for Unai Emery.
It appears as though Arsenal’s interest in signing the player is genuine, also, with Soyuncu himself recently confirming that the North London outfit have already expressed an interest.
Speaking to the media in his homeland of Turkey, as cited in a report from the Daily Mail, Soyuncu said:
Arsenal are one of the most important clubs in England. I know they’re interested in me, but there’s nothing finalised yet about my transfer. After the national team camp, we’ll have talks.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a good season in Germany with Freiburg and has caught the eye of a number of top clubs across Europe, with Arsenal among those keen.
Arsenal’s defensive issues have been well-documented in recent seasons and it is seemingly hoped that the addition of Soyuncu can remedy some long-standing deficiencies among the squad.
