Jan Oblak has signed a new deal at Atletico Madrid to end Arsenal’s hopes of signing him.
The news will come as a disappointment to Arsenal as they were hoping to try and sign the goalkeeper.
Arsenal was interested in signing the Slovenian shot-stopper to try and replace goalkeeper Petr Cech who has not had the best of seasons for the club.
Cech has also just changed his shirt number to number one which hints that they won’t be signing a new goalkeeper to replace him this summer
The contract is set to have a 180 million euros release clause.
He joined the Spanish side from Benfica back in 2014 and he has managed to establish himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world in recent years.
Oblak has kept 29 clean sheets in 49 games for Atletico this season where they finished second in La Liga and of course, won the Europa League with the club, beating the Gunners in the semi-final.
Atletico only conceded 22 goals in 38 league games this season, which shows how much of an important player Oblak is to the club and how influential he could have been at Arsenal.
