Arsenal star offered lifeline by former club
Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla is close to completing a move back to La Liga to re-join Villarreal.
The Mirror claim that reports in Spain have stated a move is close, with the midfielder set to return to his old club for pre-season training in a bid to prove his fitness.
The move will bring an end to an injury-plagued spell at the Gunners, where Cazorla has been unable to make a mark in the side.
With the player’s contract expiring at the end of the season, it was reported that the Spaniard could join Mikel Arteta’s coaching staff, should the former midfielder replace Arsene Wenger this summer.
An Achilles problem has meant game time has been nearly non-existent for Cazorla over the last 18 months.
Cazorla joined Arsenal from Malaga back in 2012 but has previously enjoyed four years with Villarreal, where he made over 100 appearances before moving on.
