France manager Didier Deschamps has finalised his World Cup squad – and there’s no place for Alexandre Lacazette.
The Arsenal forward has made 16 appearances for the French national team, scoring three goals.
With 38 appearances in his debut season at Arsenal, an at-times difficult campaign was boosted with the January signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund – but it seems not to have been enough to hand the speedy goal-threat a World Cup place.

17 goals in all competitions meant the stiff competition from his compatriots was too much to overcome for Lacazette.
Olivier Giroud, Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe, Nabil Fekir, Ousmane Dembele, and Florian Thauvin were Deschamps’ choices to lead the line in Russia.
Lacazette is in good company, however. Karim Benzema and Anthony Martial were also overlooked – a fine front three in their own regard, I’m sure you’ll agree.
PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot was also snubbed from the plans, even after a successful season at the heart of the French champions.
