Arsenal close to appointing Arteta

Mikel Arteta is close to being appointed the new Arsenal manager as Manchester City prepare for his departure, according to the Telegraph.

The 36-year-old emerged as the candidate to replace Arsene Wenger following his exit after 22 years in charge.

Both Wenger and Pep Guardiola have backed the Spaniard to take over in recent days, with both believing he would be capable to succeed if given the chance.

Arteta may have no managerial experience but he has been assistant manager at Manchester City since retiring in 2016, being part of the team involved in this record-breaking season for Guardiola’s side.

City are now believed to be planning for a future without Arteta, so they clearly think he is set to leave this summer.

The move would see him bring new ideas to the Emirates and would also mean a return to the club he captained in his final two years as a player.

Others linked to the job are Massimiliano Allegri, Luis Enrique and Arsenal invincible Patrick Vieira, but a move for Arteta seems the most likely at this point.
