Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is set to miss out on selection in England’s World Cup squad, which will be announced on Wednesday, according to the Mirror.
Manchester City’s Fabian Delph is set to be named in the 23-man squad instead, as the Gunners midfielder is due to miss out on selection entirely.
Delph is yet to feature under England boss Gareth Southgate but offers him a bonus that he can play in more than one position.
The City star, who has been playing at left-back this season, has just nine caps for England to his name, with his last outing in 2015.
It’s been reported that Southgate called Wilshere on Tuesday morning to relay the news to him.
Wilshere was selected for the most recent England squad, but he was forced to pull out through injury and Southgate isn’t prepared to take a chance on the Arsenal man this time out.
The 26-year-old must now prepare for next season and get going again for Arsenal to force his way back into contention.
