Arsenal have reportedly accelerated their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund central defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Greek international for a couple of months now and according to Italian news outlet Gianluca Di Marzio, they have progressed in their talks with Dortmund.
It’s reported that Arsenal will make Sokratis their first signing since the departure of Arsene Wenger was confirmed, inferring that a deal to sign the defender is close to completion.

The report outlines how the negotiations between the two clubs is at an ‘advanced’ stage, with an agreement set to be tied up in the near future.
Sokratis has been a key man for Dortmund in recent seasons but appears to be keen on securing his first ever move to the Premier League, with Arsenal waiting in the wings.
The Gunners’ defensive woes have been well-documented this season and it seems measures are being taken to remedy this problem.
