Arsenal clear out six men in preparation for the new era
It is reported that Arsenal will be making major changes to their backroom staff over the summer, with six key members of staff being relieved of their duties.
The Daily Mail reports that the biggest casualty will be the head of medical services Colin Lewin, who will lose his job after 23 years at the club. Equipment manager Paul Johnson, fitness coach Tony Colbert, goalkeeping specialist Gerry Peyton and first-team coach Neil Banfield will also be leaving the club as the Arsenal hierarchy look to clear out and start again.
Boro Primorac, who has been a long-term servant for Wenger will also leave the club, but assistant manager Steve Bould and goalkeeping coach Jens Lehmann will be offered positions in the new setup at the Emirates.
Wenger’s successor is yet to be announced but it is likely that the new boss will want to bring in his own backroom staff. Kaveh Solhekol, from Sky Sports, reports that Mikel Arteta is the front runner for the job. The 36-year-old would be a risk as he has never managed before but he has spent time under Pep Guardiola and this could make him the perfect man for the job.
Arsenal intend on having their man in place before the start of the World Cup in Russia.
