Blow for Arsenal as managerial target rules out a move to the Emirates

Massimiliano Allegri has ruled himself out of the running for the Arsenal job by stating his intentions to remain in charge of Juventus next season, as per a report from Sky Sports.

The 50-year-old has been linked with the Arsenal job since Arsene Wenger’s departure was announced, with fans hoping his domestic success in Italy could be transferred to the Emirates.

Juventus drew 0-0 with Roma at the weekend, securing their seventh successive Serie A title and their fourth with Allegri at the helm.

After winning the league again, the Italian was keen to ensure he saw his future remaining with the champions:

If they don’t sack me, I’ll stay at Juventus next year too.

That leaves the Gunners having to look at other targets, with Mikel Arteta and Luis Enrique the favourites to become the first new Arsenal manager since 1996.

One saving grace for the Gunners could be that if the new man doesn’t have a good season, Allegri is out of contract next summer so they could review that move in twelve months’ time.

However, Arsenal will want the first post-Wenger appointment to be correct so that should not be at the forefront of their minds.
