# Ex-Gunner urges club not to appoint former players

Emmanuel Petit has urged his former side not to appoint either Patrick Vieira or Mikel Arteta this summer.

Speaking to [RMC](https://rmcsport.bfmtv.com/football/pour-petit-la-nomination-de-vieira-a-arsenal-serait-prematuree-1442440.html), the Frenchman explained that the job would come too soon for Vieira, who has been heavily linked with the job.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder tipped Juventus boss Massimo Allegri to replace the departing Arsene Wenger.

> For me, Allegri has done remarkable work at Juve with a budget far from that of the big European teams. Vieira could also be a solution, but I think it’s still premature.

Petit also raised concerns about the prospect of Arteta taking over.

> I don’t see it. He’s very good next to Pep Guardiola on the bench at Manchester City.

The Gunners are reportedly considering Arteta or Vieira as Wenger’s successor.

Both of the former Arsenal midfielders are highly thought of in the game as up and coming coaches.

Arteta has been working with Manchester City and Pep Guardiola since leaving the Gunners, something Arsenal believe will prime him for a top managerial job.

Vieira is currently in charge of Manchester City’s sister side New York City FC in the MLS.
