Arsene Wenger believes the abuse from football fans is being provoked by ‘age discrimination’, rather than the fact that he has been highly unsuccessful for the most part of 14 seasons, according to a report by the Telegraph.
The older you get, the more it becomes age discrimination. I accept if the results are not good enough then you have to take the consequences. But overall that perpetual thing how long you been at a club, how old you are, I find that a bit difficult to take. But all the rest I have to accept because I am in a public job and have to make results and I accept I will be judged on results.
The 68-year-old has won three FA Cups in the past four years, however, just three league titles since 1996 is a poor record for a team who set out to win the league at the start of each season and has left fans calling for the Frenchman to leave at the end of the season.
The Gunners have been struggling to improve year on year and now look set to miss out on a place in the top four this season.
There is no denying that it has been a tough season for the Gunners and for Wenger, but guiding the club to winning the Europa League may salvage the season for Arsenal.
Yet more reports have emerged about the Frenchman’s future over the weekend. Former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel has been heavily linked with the job this summer.
