Three Gunners called up for England duty

Gareth Southgate has called up Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck for England’s friendly games against the Netherlands on March 23rd and Italy on March 27th.

Many observers expected Wilshere to be included but a few eyebrows have been raised about Welbeck being named in the squad has he’s hardly been lighting the world on fire at Arsenal.

With places at the World Cup up for grabs, the Arsenal duo will be keen to impress as, as it stands, there are very few players who are certain to be on the plane to Russia.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles has also been called up for England duty. He has been named in England’s U21 squad by Aidy Boothroyd. The U21s face Romania in a friendly before a European Championships qualifier against Ukraine.
