New Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wants the Gunners to target the Europa League in an attempt to make next season’s Champions League.
As reported by Football London, the former Dortmund forward told French TV station SFR that finishing inside the top four now appears unlikely.
I think obviously the Europa League is a good option to qualify for the Champions League. Now the route is not easy – 10 points from fourth place.
Following Thursday night’s embarrassment at home to Manchester City, the Gunners are now 10 points behind Spurs in fourth place.
Champions League qualification is rewarded to the winners of the Europa League.
The Gabon international was unable to build on his first goal for the Gunners when he was presented with an opportunity to score from the spot on Thursday night.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan was brought down inside the box by Nicolas Otamendi, gifting the Gunners a route back into the game.
However, it was the Aubameyang who stepped up to take the penalty and Ederson got the better of the striker, saving his effort from 12 yards out.
