Arsenal want to meet release clause of Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez this summer, according to reports in Spain.
The 23-year-old Uruguayan is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders playing in Europe’s top leagues and Arsenal, looking to improve their shaky defence, are eyeing up a move to bring him to the Emirates.

As with all players based in Spain, Gimenez has a release clause in his contract and his is set at £57.3m. With the price of defenders going up and up, as shown by the £75m Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk, that fee could be seen as a relative bargain for a highly coveted centre-back.
Gimenez struggled to get regular game time earlier in the season as the duo of Stefan Savic and Diego Godin were plating so well, bu he’s managed to get into the side in recent weeks and he’s impressed enough for Arsenal to have an interest in him.
