# Wilshere close to signing a new reduced wage contract

Jack Wilshere is close to signing a new deal with Arsenal after manager Arsene Wenger stressed that the situation was one that needed resolving immediately.

The Gunners are understood to have offered a reduced basic salary in their offer, with Wilshere set to drop from a weekly wage of £110,000 to around £90,000, although he could still be paid around £110,000-a-week with appearances related incentives.

Although Wilshere has produced his best form this season since a first serious injury in 2011, Arsenal believe it is reasonable for a new contract to reflect his injury record and the doubt that might raise about future availability.

Wilshere has been plagued with injuries over the years, making just 81 Premier League appearances for the club in six and half years. Wilshere has previously reiterated his desire to stay with Arsenal, and has never looked to leave the club. Wenger said;

> We try to make progress and I told you that many times for \[Mesut\] Özil. I’m positive because I want him to stay. I do the maximum I can to make him happy.

Talks have also begun with Aaron Ramsey over a deal that expires in June 2019. Wenger added;

> He is a little bit different because there is less time-constraint than with Jack.
>
> With Jack it is now. With Aaron, do we lose two weeks or three weeks? It doesn’t matter much. I want him to stay as well.
