Wenger hoping that Mkhitaryan can replace Cazorla

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is hoping that new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan can replace the club’s forgotten man Santi Cazorla.

As reported by the London Evening Standard, Wenger says he believes that the Armenian has the potential to fill the void left by the Spanish playmaker.

I wish [he could take over Santi’s role]. Santi was an exceptional football player, technically to find Santi. [Mkhitaryan] for sure has the technical level to play in our team.

The Gunners have struggled to replace Cazorla and find the right balance in midfield following his injuries.

The Spaniard has been struggling since late 2015 with reoccurring ankle injuries that have kept him out of action.

There had been some concerns about where Mkhitaryan would fit into the Gunners side, especially with Mesut Ozil extending his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Mkhitaryan made his first start for Arsenal against Everton in their 5-1 victory and impressed. The Armenian registered three assists, looking composed and assured on the ball.
