Arsenal failed in deadline day Manolas move

Arsenal failed in their attempts to make a move for Roma defender Kostas Manolas on deadline day.

According to Sky Italia, Roma rebuffed Arsenal’s interest on Wednesday, citing the lack of time to find a replacement as their reason for rejecting.

The report also claims that Arsenal will return to Manolas in the summer to solve their defensive issues for next season.

The Greek international has built a reputation as one of the strongest central defenders in Europe during his time in the Serie A.

Arsenal turned to Manolas late on Wednesday after they were unable to agree a deal to sign Jonny Evans from West Brom.

The club had a £12m offer rejected by West Brom, but may still move for the Northern Ireland international in the summer.

Evans has a relegation clause in his contract that makes him available for £3m if West Brom are relegated to the Championship this season.
