# West Brom reject Arsenal approach for Evans

Arsenal have seen an offer for West Brom defender Jonny Evans rejected today.

[According to ITV News,](https://www.itv.com/news/2018-01-31/arsenal-fail-in-late-bid-for-west-brom-captain-jonny-evans/) West Brom have rebuffed an attempt at negotiations from Arsenal as they look to keep hold of their captain.

The report claims that West Brom wanted £30m to prize Evans away, and would not even consider an offer of under £20m.

However, if West Brom are to be relegated from the Premier League this season, Evans will be available for £3m.

Evans has a relegation clause in his West Brom contract that will allow him to leave for 10% of what West Brom are demanding for the defender in this window.

This means that it could be worthwhile for Arsenal to hold off on a move until the summer to save themselves a bumper transfer fee.

Arsenal completed the club-record signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubmeyang from Borussia Dortmund earlier today for a fee in the region of £56m.
