Arsenal make request to sign David Luiz

Arsenal have allowed Olivier Giroud to join Chelsea in a reported £18m deal but Arsene Wenger has asked about getting a player in return, according to David Ornstein.

The Gunners have repeated been linked with a move for David Luiz this month and Wenger has sounded out Chelsea about the possibility of signing the Brazilian centre-back in return for allowing Giroud to join the Blues.

However, despite Arsenal’s interest, Nizaar Kinsella notes that Luiz will remain at Chelsea until the end of the season.

Having fallen out with Antonio Conte, Luiz was pushed down the Chelsea pecking order and is understood to be eager to leave the club if the right club comes in.

Adding to their defense remains a priority for Arsenal before tonight’s transfer deadline and Riob Holding will not be allowed to join Burnley on loan.
