# Debuchy set to join Saint-Etienne for free

According to a report from French news source [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Transferts-mathieu-debuchy-a-saint-etienne/871552), Arsenal are set to allow Mathieu Debuchy to join Saint-Etienne on a free transfer in the imminent future.

The experienced right-back is merely a squad player under Arsene Wenger and is keen to seek pastures new, as he aims to revitalise his career.

It has not been plain sailing for Debuchy during his tenure at Arsenal. Much was expected of him following his move from Newcastle some years ago but he has simply struggled to find consistency, largely down to long-term injury troubles.

The 32-year-old is hopeful that joining Saint-Etienne, where he will hope to play on a regular basis, can aid him in his ambitions to break into the France national squad ahead of the World Cup in the summer.

It’s claimed that Arsenal will sanction the transfer free of cost for Saint-Etienne, with the club no longer requiring Debuchy’s services. They will also undoubtedly be keen to clear him from their wage bill.
