Wenger concerned over Mkhitaryan’s confidence

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted his concern of new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan, over a possible confidence hit after a largely disappointing time at Manchester United, the Independent report.

Mkhitaryan, who recently turned 29, joined the Gunners this week as part of a swap deal which saw Alexis Sanchez leave the Emirates for Old Trafford.

The Armenian international ended his frustrating 18-month spell with former boss Jose Mourinho, and new boss Wenger is concerned that the midfielder’s confidence might have taken a big hit.

Mkhitaryan did enjoy some success at Old Trafford, and played a key role in Manchester United’s Europa League triumph, scoring six times in 11 European fixtures.

When asked about Mkhitaryan’s time at Old Trafford, Wenger admitted he is worried over the players confidence and spoke about how the Armenian nearly chose the Gunners over United in the summer of 2016.

Of course, you worry about how much it has affected him, but as well, it’s a new chance for him, what you want in life is a new chance and I’m sure with his quality that he will take it. I met him at the time (he moved to United), at the time we were close but in the end it didn’t work.
