Arsenal still looking to sign Jonny Evans

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is still extremely keen to sign Jonny Evans from West Brom this month, according to the Mirror.

The Gunners have already been busy in the January transfer window and have sanctioned the swap deal of Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan with Manchester United.

However, boss Wenger is not finished there and is looking to bring in more fresh faces this month in an attempt to strengthen his current options.

Wenger wants to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund, with Arsenal already discussing a move with the German club. However, it seems Evans is still a primary defensive target for the North London outfit, whose defence has flattered to deceive this season.

Evans has been linked with a number of top clubs in the last six months, including Manchester City, and a move away from West Brom could be a possibility.

Although Baggies boss Alan Pardew wants to retain the Northern Ireland international’s services, it’s understood that West Brom must sell before they buy in January. This could mean that a move for Evans is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Evans is, according to the Mirror, rated at £20m by his current club. However, if West Brom are relegated from the Premier League this season, the report states that the experienced defender will have a release clause worth only £3m.
