Get French Football have reported that Manchester United are now leading the race to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, ahead of local rivals Manchester City.
As well as Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain have also expressed an interest in the Chilean.
Sanchez’s contract runs out in the summer and so as it is the January transfer window, he is able to talk to other clubs about joining them for free on a pre-contract agreement.
It has been reported that his agent has made contact with José Mourinho about bringing Alexis to Old Trafford when it was thought he would be heading to the Etihad Stadium and to his former manager from Barcelona, Pep Guardiola.
Sanchez is in a similar position to Mesut Ozil, who was linked to moves this window with Manchester United and Barcelona, who have since dropped their interest in the German following the signing of Philippe Coutinho.
It is also reported that Mourinho will offer Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Arsenal as part of the transfer deal to bring Sanchez to United.
Mkhitaryan has fallen out of favour with Mourinho and the Portuguese manager sees him as leverage to boost their hopes of striking a deal.
