# Wenger: Giroud’s wife didn’t block Everton move

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has insisted that Olivier Giroud’s wife did not block his move to Everton in the summer, the [Daily Star](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/669619/Arsenal-Everton-Olivier-Giroud-Arsene-Wenger-Sam-Allardyce-Transfer-News-Rumours-Gossip) report.

Giroud was heavily linked to leave the Emirates in the summer after the Gunners secured the services of fellow Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon, with Everton showing a real interest.

New Everton manager Sam Allardyce has recently claimed that the move was on in the summer until Giroud’s wife put her foot down and blocked the transfer, claiming she didn’t want to swap London for Liverpool.

The Toffees were looking for a replacement after selling Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United in a deal that could be worth up to £90 million.

However, when asked about Giroud’s situation over the summer, Wenger said:

> He could have joined Everton and stayed basically in London. I don’t think that was the problem.

With Giroud continuing to be on the bench regularly for Wenger’s side, the Frenchman may look abroad in order for him to gain more playing time if the deal suits himself and his family.
