Arsenal have been priced out of a move for Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk, according to the Mirror.
Saints are resigned to losing their prized asset in the January transfer window, but it seems Arsenal will not be acting on their summer interest as they feel his valuation is excessive.
Van Dijk handed in an official transfer request at St Mary’s in August but failed to secure his move as Saints aimed to keep hold of their best players. However, it’s looking increasingly likely that only months on, he will be departing the club.

Southampton are said to be demanding a world-record transfer fee for a defender, thought to be around the £70 million mark. Arsenal deem this to be over-priced and will therefore not pursue their interest in January.
It seems Manchester City are leading the race for Van Dijk but Liverpool, who the Dutchman wanted to join in the summer, remain interested.
