# Sanchez agreed a new Arsenal deal but one defeat changed everything

Alexis Sanchez looks set to leave Arsenal for nothing in the summer, but the story could have been different, with reports suggesting the player had agreed a new contract at the club.

[The Times](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/sport/football-notebook-bayern-munich-rout-scuppered-alexis-sanchez-deal-at-arsenal-nkblzj2cn) say that Sanchez had agreed a new deal at the Emirates but changed his mind after the club’s humiliating 10-2 defeat on aggregate to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The Gunners lost 5-1 in both legs of their last 16 clash last season against the German champions.

Sanchez was seen to be bitterly disappointed on the night and it now looks like that evening changed everything for the forward.

Manchester City were heavily linked with a move for the Chilean throughout the summer but Arsene Wenger refused to sell.

Wenger dug his heels in and wanted to keep Sanchez at the Emirates in a bid to win the Premier League title.

Sanchez will now enter the final months of his contract in January and looks set to join Manchester City in the summer for nothing.
