# Arsenal Player Ratings: Southampton (A)

Olivier Giroud rescued a point for Arsenal at Southampton on Sunday, as Arsene Wenger’s men came away with a 1-1 draw.

Expectations were high heading into the clash at St Mary’s and an opportunity presented itself, with Chelsea having lost on Saturday to West Ham. The Gunners had the chance to move ever closer to their London rivals.

However, the spoils between them and Saints were shared, as Arsenal’s persistence eventually paid off.

The Gunners got off to the worst possible start, though, as Charlie Austin converted. Dusan Tadic played a reserve ball through to the in-form striker, who made no mistake in lofting the ball over Petr Cech.

Both sides had a few chances here and there throughout but Arsenal levelled proceedings in the 88th minute. Giroud, off the bench, was able to connect with Alexis Sanchez’s chipped ball into the box to seal one point for the visitors.
