Arsene Wenger has said that Petr Cech can remain as Arsenal’s number one until he gets into his 40’s.
The Arsenal manager has been comparing the Czech goalkeeper with former Fulham and Manchester United number one, Edwin van der Sar, who became a legend at Old Trafford winning four Premier League titles, his final being when he was north of 40.
The former Netherlands goalkeeper also won the Champions League with the Red Devils aged 37, two years older than Cech currently.
Wenger has mentioned, however, that whether Cech stays that long in an Arsenal shirt or not is down to solely his fitness and his performances on the pitch.

Speaking to the media, Wenger said (via The Mirror):
I remember Van der Sar at Man United, I compare them. They are intelligent, they have great similar size, similar quality.
I don’t rule it out [Cech playing until he is 40] but that will only be down to his performances.
Cech has kept two clean sheets in his last two games against Burnley and arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur, where he made a number of memorable saves.
Wenger, Cech and Arsenal face Huddersfield on Wednesday night with Cech looking to keep up his run of recent brilliant performances, and it will be seen in future if these performances can help him keep the number one shirt and play into his 40’s with the Gunners.
