Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is facing a battle to keep both his Arsenal and England career alive this season, the London Evening Standard reports.
Wilshere has revealed that he is still to hear from Gareth Southgate despite the Three Lions boss stating he would contact the player. When asked if Southgate had made contact Wilshire replied:
No. He hasn’t. He’s got my number and he hasn’t called me yet. He said in the press what he wanted me to do: get in the team and play regularly, and that’s what I’m trying to do.
Southgate explained that the Gunners man had been left out due to fitness concerns saying.
The concern for me with Jack is that it’s not just this one injury, it is many injuries over a long period of time.
There is also debate about where Wilshere would play as Southgate said.
Jack played as a No10 all of last season on loan at Bournemouth. That is not the way we are playing. When we have played with a 10, we have had Dele [Alli] and [Adam] Lallana.
Club manager Arsene Wenger has played Wilshere in wide positions during their European campaign and Wilshere impressed against Cologne despite the result.

It is understood that Wenger will discuss Wilshere’s future with him next month but the 25-year-old is feeling positive.
I haven’t been at Arsenal, fit and feeling like I do, for a good couple of years. At the moment, I’m happy. I’ve said there’s going to have to be a conversation because time is running out on my contract. When that time comes, I’ll sit down with the boss and go from there. I want to play in the Premier League, so of course I’m frustrated, but the team are playing well.
Wilshere will be hoping that his fortunes turn around and will look to break into the Arsenal team as a regular, with a view to getting on the plane to the World Cup with England next summer.
