Wenger – Arsenal lacked final third passing accuracy

Arsenal lacked passing accuracy in the final third tonight, according to Arsene Wenger.

In what was the Gunners penultimate Europa League group stage game, the London club fell to a 1-0 loss against German side FC Köln (Cologne).

Wenger, who refused to criticise his players for the way they approached the game, lamented their lack of passing accuracy, as well as taking too long to inject pace into their play.

Having already qualified for the next round, Arsenal knew that a win against Cologne would see them win their group, and despite losing they still won their group thanks to other results.

Despite having the lion’s share of possession, the Gunners failed to make a breakthrough and were made to pay when Sehrou Guirassy slotted from the penalty spot shortly after the hour mark.

Wenger had this to say about his side’s performance at the RheinEnergieStadion;

We missed the accuracy of our passing in the final third.

Cologne defended with fanatic spirit and determination.

It took us some time to inject pace into the game.

I cannot fault the concentration and preparation of the players.

Arsenal will be looking to bounce back when they return to Premier League action this weekend.

Wenger’s men will travel to Turf Moor to take on Sean Dyche’s in-form Burnley side.
