Mesut Özil has reportedly informed Barcelona of his wage demands ahead of a potential move in January, according to sources in Spain.
AS have claimed that the German has told La Liga giants Barcelona that he wants €370,000 a week to join the Catalans, however the club will need to shift Arda Turan before they can complete the deal.
The report claims that the former Atlético Madrid man is the sixth highest earner in the Catalan club’s squad, and he’ll need to be sacrificed if the club want the deal with Özil to go through.
Negotiaiting Lionel Messi’s contract renewal has reportedly taken Barcelona to “84% of their planned outlay” when it comes to players wages, and they will not bend that to fit Özil in.
AS also claims that Arsene Wenger is desperate not to lose the attacker to Manchester United, who he could join for free next summer, and so would be willing to sanction a sale abroad in January.
Barça are also said to be interested in doing a January deal for the former Real Madrid man, as he won’t be cup-tied in the Champions League, although they are happy to wait until the summer if necessary.
It is said that Arsenal are increasingly confident that they’ll be without Özil next season, and are already planning for a future without the German, with Schalke’s Leon Goretzka seen as a possible replacement.
