Manchester City have joined the race to sign Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to The Mirror.
The report claims that Manchester City are hoping to sign the player on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.
There have been reports that Goretzka has rejected advances from Barcelona to seal a move to Liverpool, though nothing is iron clad.
Goretzka has been in superb form for Schalke of late and is attracting interest from some of Europe’s elite.
Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Juventus are also thought to be interested.
The German midfielder has scored four goals in nine games for Schalke this season and has scored six goals in 12 caps for Germany.
Arsenal look set to lose Mesut Ozil on a free transfer next summer and could look to his compatriot as a replacement.
Alexis Sanchez also looks set to leave the club when his deal runs out at the end of the season.
