Petr Cech denies claims of North London power shift

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has rejected claims of a North London power shift between Arsenal and Tottenham, with the stopper saying that their rivals need to win trophies first.

In recent years, Tottenham have caught up with their North London rivals Arsenal after finishing above them for the first time in 21 years last campaign but Cech has denied the fact that North London could be white and not red anymore.

As well as finally finishing above them, Spurs are strutting their stuff in the Champions League against the likes of Real Madrid this season, whereas Arsenal are now in the Europa League.

When asked about the apparent power shift, Cech said

No. I don’t think so. There is always one odd year where things can change. They’ve been there in the last few years so now I think they have to make sure they win something to show the progression. They have young, talented players as well as experienced players. Their team is very well balanced. There was always something missing but I would say the difference was when Pochettino came.

The former Chelsea man added by saying

Success is ultimately winning trophies. We were under pressure the last couple of years, people talking about winning trophies, obviously we are disappointed not to have won the title but we won FA Cups. Although the season was not always what we wanted, we always had a trophy at the end of it.
