Wenger to discuss his position at the end of the season

Arsène Wenger is to hold talks about his own contract with the Arsenal board at the end of this current campaign.

The newly turned 68-year-old was handed a two-year contract in May, but talks will be held with Wenger just a year into that deal.

He has been at the club for upwards of two decades now, but had this to say at the annual general meeting (via The Express):

My hunger, my commitment is bigger than ever. But I accept when you have been at a club for a long time, everyone questions that.

Due to the failure to provide a Premier League title since 2004, limited success, title challenges or European Cup runs, many fans have called for the manager to leave.

At the general meeting, however, held at the Emirates, Wenger received a huge welcoming from the shareholders of Arsenal.

However, Chips Keswick did not receive a warm welcome from the fans who own a stake in the club.

Neither did majority shareholder Stan Kroenke, who recently revealed that he wishes to never sell his share in Arsenal and aims to pass it on for generations.

It was after the memorable 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup Final in May, Wenger’s third in four years, when he was awarded a new two-year deal.

Despite this, it was the first time since 1995-96 that the Gunners had finished out of the top four and the first time since 1994-95 that they had finished below their arch-rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.
