Arsenal and Real Madrid battle for Alan Guimaraes

A common them in Arsene Wenger tenure at Arsenal is his commitment to finding and purchasing talented young players to develop at the club and hopefully blood them in the first-team down the line.

The best example of this in recent seasons is Rob Holding, with the former £3m signing from Bolton now an established member of the first-team squad.

The Gunners are believed to be considering a move for one of Brazil’s finest young talents but they face competition from one of Europe’s elite clubs.

Champions League holders Real Madrid have joined Arsenal in the race to sign highly-rated Palmeiras attacking midfielder Alan Guimaraes.

Madrid have already moved to sign Guimaraes’ Brazil youth international teammate Vinicius Junior in 2019 and it’s believed they have a verbal agreement with Alan’s representatives over a transfer.

Despite this, Arsenal are ready to provide competition for his signature after some impressive performances in the U17 World Cup this Autumn.

Guimaraes rejected the chance to join Inter Milan in 2014 but now has clubs such as Arsenal and Real Madrid chasing him as a transfer appears increasingly likely.
