Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has been urged to snub interest from Manchester United and return to the Bundesliga by former Germany striker Karl-Heinz Riedle.
The 1990 World Cup winner, as quoted by the Daily Mail, told Omnisport that Ozil would probably find more success by returning to his homeland, as opposed to seeking another challenge in the English top flight.
There’s a rumour that he goes to Manchester United. He shouldn’t do it.
Ozil is a quality player. If you see his skills, it’s just amazing what he can do on the pitch. We would be very happy if he comes back to a club in Germany, for sure. But I’m not his agent so I don’t know where he ends up.
Ozil is currently looking likely to leave Arsenal in the coming months. His deal at the club expires at the end of the season, and he will be free to discuss a move to foreign clubs in January before walking away for nothing in the summer.
Best option is if he would, from my point, come to the Bundesliga. It’s a really good option because we get another national player back in our league.
The former Real Madrid playmaker is reportedly wanted by Jose Mourinho, who signed him for the La Liga giants, at Manchester United. However, Riedle believes that Ozil would be best served by plying his trade in Germany once again.
But if he is looking only for the money, then it would be very difficult to find the same kind of money in the German league than he can find in the Premier League.
Riedle evidently admires Ozil and his talent, but is adamant that Old Trafford should not be his next destination.
