# Giroud discusses Everton’s summer proposal

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has been discussing why he remained at the club in the summer, turning down Everton in the process.

The France international was a wanted man in the transfer window, with several clubs across Europe tracking him. Everton were keen to replace Romelu Lukaku with Giroud, while Marseille also held an interest in bringing him back to his homeland.

As quoted by [Goal](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/arsenals-giroud-i-was-very-close-to-joining-everton/1tjmg1gxwle9z1o6ldh1hmyul4), the Frenchman admitted that Everton did propose a transfer for him, but insisted that he made the right decision by staying at the Emirates Stadium.

The powerful ex-Montpellier forward has not been largely favoured by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger this season. The arrival of Alexandre Lacazette has meant that Giroud has not had all that much of a look-in, and Danny Welbeck has also been preferred in recent times.

Everton are still being cited with interest in Giroud though, and they could move for the forward in January.
