Wenger backs Wilshere to earn new deal at Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that Jack Wilshere has the capability to earn his new deal at the club.

The England international has been touted with an extended stay at the Emirates as he returns to full fitness, but Wenger is counting on the midfielder to earn his new contract.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, Gunners boss Wenger implied that if Wilshere can maintain his fitness and perform to his potential until the turn of the year at the very least, he’d certainly be in line for a renewed contract at the club.

He needs to keep his health and be capable of competing. If he can play from now until December at the top level, he will be back. If he has other set backs then it will be more difficult.

It’s a vital season because he’s nearing the end of his contract, it’s a World Cup year and he has been an Arsenal player since he was a kid, so all that’s at stake for him and for us as well because you’d love a player like him of that quality to come back.

Wilshere has seen his once incredibly promising career be plagued by injuries in the last few years, but he is now available for selection, and believes he can get back to his very best.

The midfielder has played two games this season, and has impressed in both. He featured in the two wins against BATE Borisov and Doncaster Rovers in the Europa League and Carabao Cup respectively.
