# Arsenal scout Sporting CP right-back

Arsenal are reportedly keeping track of Sporting CP right-back Cristiano Piccini after an impressive start to the season.

The Italian right-back only secured a move to Portugal in the recent summer transfer window, but is already catching the attention of clubs from across Europe, including the Gunners. West Ham are also being linked with a move for the impressive defender.

It’s claimed by Portuguese news outlet A Bola, as covered in a report from [Sapo Desporto](https://desporto.sapo.pt/futebol/primeira-liga/artigos/piccini-desperta-o-interesse-de-inglaterra), that Arsenal’s representatives have been attending Sporting’s recent games with the purpose of tracking Piccini’s progress.

Arsenal appear to lack depth out on the right hand side of defence, and the signing of Piccini would undoubtedly solve this issue. Hector Bellerin has been holding his own down the right, but a backup could be targeted in January, and Piccini is evidently a man who interests the Gunners.

The 25-year-old is a former Italy Under-21 international.
