# Wilshere fighting for new Arsenal contract

Jack Wilshere is hoping to earn a new contract at Arsenal after a breaking back into the first-team squad.

[Goal](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/rejuvenated-wilshere-eyes-extension-to-expiring-arsenal/mwk3in9ij7gc1vrfmhbs5qm6t) reports that Wilshere is targeting a new deal after impressing in the Europa League on Thursday against BATE Borisov.

Wilshere admitted that he is playing for a contract in what can be considered a make or break season for him at the Emirates.

> You are always playing for your future but I am happy to be back, to feel part of the squad. I am fit and healthy and getting back to my best and when the time comes to sit down and talk or not we will see.

Wilshere’s current contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he could face the prospect of being released by the club.

Arsene Wenger heaped praise on the midfielder after his performance in the Europa League, but it appears that Wilshere still has some work to do in order to break into the side for Premier League fixtures.

Wilshere spent last season on loan at Bournemouth but injuries prevented him from recapturing his best form under Eddie Howe.
