# Wenger heaps praise on “outstanding” Wilshere

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger heaped praise on Jack Wilshere’s performance in Belarus last night, hailing Wilshere’s contribution as “outstanding” in their 4-2 Europa League victory at BATE Borisov, [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11670/11058311/jack-wilshere-outstanding-in-arsenal-win-over-bate-borisov-says-arsene-wenger) report.

Speaking to the media after the game, and specifically about Wilshere, Wenger said:

> He had an outstanding first half. He fights until the end. He’s on his way back to his best and showed that. He’s at an age where a player normally gets to the best of his career. He’s on the way up.

Earlier in the day Wilshere found out he had not been included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, but demonstrated his potential of getting back to his best, doing himself no harm in an attempt to gain a contract extension from the Gunners, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the season.

Wilshere has been slowly reintroduced into the first-team squad at the Emirates after spending last season on loan at Bournemouth.

Wenger continued his praise on Wilshere’s performance and admitted how he’s been praying that the former England international can enjoy an injury-free campaign with the Gunners.

> I just pray, he is not hampered by any more problems and that will see him getting stronger and stronger. He’s shown again that he’s not lost his football.
