Germany manager Joachim Low has left out Mesut Ozil for their upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan, as he continues his recovery to full fitness after “a minor inflammation” of his knee earlier this month, Sky Sports report.
Ozil has featured five times for the Gunners this season, with his most recent appearance coming off the bench in a 2-0 victory against West Brom on Monday evening.
Germany boss Low was happy to not risk Ozil or Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira and for the duo to continue their respective recoveries.
I expect Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira to recover during this break for international matches. That is more important for them now. What will be decisive for us is that the players are fully fit next year.
This will be a decision welcomed by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger as he looks ahead to a busy schedule of games over the coming months.
Ozil’s club team-mate Shkodran Mustafi has however been named in the German squad for the upcoming games.
