Wenger looking for more from Iwobi

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken of his desire to see more from Alex Iwobi this season.

The Nigerian wide man has burst onto the scene in recent years with the Gunners and has established himself as a key first-team player for Wenger.

However, as quoted by Football London, the Gunners boss is keen to see a bit more from Iwobi, and is backing him to kick on and shine in the remainder of the season.

I like the fact that he can play in tight areas, that he turns the game forwards, that he’s very mobile. We forget sometimes that Alex is still a very young player and that there’s a lot more to come from him. There must be a lot more to come from him because he has more personality in the game now.

Iwobi started in Arsenal’s hard fought draw against Chelsea last week, but failed to have the desired impact in the absence of both Mesut Ozil and, temporarily, Alexis Sanchez.

We expect him to be more efficient in the final third offensively, because you feel there are goals in there and assists too.

Arsenal take on West Brom away from home on Monday night, and Iwobi will be keen to be rewarded with yet another starting berth.

They have to come out. Add that to the fact that he allows the team to play very well and he will be a top-class player.

It’s been a mixed start to the campaign for the Gunners as they sit in 12th place on the Premier League table – a position they will look to improve upon in the coming weeks.
