Two Arsenal players nominated for place in World XI

Arsenal players Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have been nominated for a place on the FIFA FIFPro World XI.

The award team, which comprises the best 11 players in the world in the calendar year, as voted for by the professionals themselves, has been running since 2005.

Neither of Arsenal’s nominees this year have ever been in the XI before, but both have made the shortlist in the past.

Thierry Henry is the only player ever to have featured in the final eleven, when he was voted in in 2006, the year that Arsenal were runners up in the Champions League final.

No Chilean has ever received a place in the team, with Arturo Vidal of Bayern Munich also having been nominated in the past, but like Sanchez, he has never been voted into the final award side.

Mesut Ozil will be hoping to join Toni Kroos, Manuel Neuer and Phillip Lahm on the list of Germans to have made the prestigious eleven.
