Wenger discusses failed Lemar deal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been discussing his side’s failed move to land AS Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.

The Gunners boss, as quoted by the Independent, admitted that the France international turned down the chance to play for the Premier League side, who looked to secure a huge deadline day deal for him.

The player has chosen to stay in Monaco. You do not want to talk too much about (it). You have to respect what happens on the negotiation side.

I know we live in the era of transparency but at some stage, to respect everybody you have to not talk too much about that.

Lemar was subject to interest from top Premier League sides throughout the summer. Arsenal had plenty of bids rejected for him earlier on in the summer, before Liverpool then lodged a couple of lucrative offers.

However, on the final day of the window, Arsenal made a record-breaking £92m offer for the former Caen man. This, inevitably, was accepted by the Ligue 1 champions.

Lemar, though, rejected the chance to play for Arsenal as the move simply came too late for him. He is also claimed to have been more keen on a move to Liverpool, who were the main rivals to his signature for Arsenal.
